** CALL OUT TO FRIENDS WHO WOULD SMOOCH**
.
Just in time to commodify another social holiday, the Downtown Victoria Business Association (DVBA) is launching its fourth annual Kiss in the City Photo Contest. The contest is calling for folks living on these territories to waltz into downtown, and take a photo smooching with their partner. Taking a look at previous year’s entries, it looks like mostly nicely dressed middle-age heterosexual white couples kissing in ritzy places.
.
For a little back ground on DVBA, they’re the folks responsible for the signs (with the four red circles) banning people from camping, trespassing, loitering, or soliciting in store front windows. We connect this Valentines campaign with their effort to further gentrify Victoria’s downtown spaces and criminalize poverty by normalizing a class-stratified use of downtown spaces.

.
Fuck that! We feel compelled to creatively disrupt this process.
.
So here is the proposal:
.
Book a time with Disruption to go downtown and take a photo smooching either your partner(s), or another special someone, (or you can smooch one of us, this is ok too!) in front of your least favourite red circle private property sign.  (Or not smooching, maybe doing something else creative – you decide!)
.
We’ll supply the camera and a chalk board where you can write witty slogans like “WHO CAN KISS WHERE?” or “WHO IS ALLOWED TO LOVE HERE?”
.
Then, we’ll upload the photo’s to the contest website, and hopefully overwhelm the entries with photo’s disrupting their process!
.
We can later go online and vote for our favourites.
.
We are available Sunday afternoon (the 20th, 27th and 3rd), in half an hour slots from 2 – 6.
.
If this time is inaccessible for you, let us know and we’ll work around your schedule!  Or you can take your own smoochy photo and send it to us and we’ll upload it.
.
The last chance for smooching is the afternoon of Sunday, Feb 3. contact Disruption Collective members:
